Bevin goes bonkers, claims teacher rally caused child sexual abuse

EDITOR'S NOTE: Following another tirade from Kentucky's proto-Trump, we got this fund-raising email from Mary Nishimuta, state Democratic Party executive director.

You’re not going to believe this, but Governor Bevin told a group of reporters yesterday that teachers “flippantly disregarded what’s truly best for children” and said the rally in Frankfort caused a child to be sexually assaulted. This is what he said:

“I guarantee you somewhere in Kentucky today a child was sexually assaulted that was left at home because there was nobody there to watch them.” - Matt Bevin

Bevin’s comments have drawn criticism from almost everyone-- except his Republican colleagues of course. Most remain silent, unwilling to hold him accountable. He has crossed the line, and we need to hold him accountable by electing new leaders in Frankfort.

Can you chip in $3 to hold Bevin accountable in November?

I came home from yesterday’s rally in Frankfort energized, and so proud of our Kentucky teachers and public employees. And then I turned on the news to discover that Governor Bevin had sunk to a new low.

As a mother, I’m deeply insulted by Governor Bevin’s use of abused children as a political prop. Governor Bevin’s behavior has been appalling, and increasingly bizarre, in recent weeks. He has called teachers lazy and uninformed, yesterday during the rally he spent much of the day ranting on Twitter, and then speaking with reporters at the Capitol he went after the teachers again.

It’s unbelievable, and unacceptable. If you’re angry like I am, it’s time to commit to change in Kentucky. Anger without action won’t accomplish anything. Governor Bevin is delusional and out of control. Most Republicans in the General Assembly are silent and complicit. The only way to hold him accountable is to elect new leaders in Frankfort.

Teachers deserve respect. We've got to stop him. Will you hold Bevin accountable in November?

In Solidarity,

Mary Nishimuta,

Executive Director, Kentucky Democrats
