Conference call on 31st Senate District special set for Friday afternoon

State AFL-CIO president Bill Londridgan has arranged a Friday afternoon conference call to discuss the March 5 special election to fill the empty Senate seat for District 31, which encompasses Elliott, Lawrence, Martin, Morgan and Pike counties.

The call will start at 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The call-in number is 641.715.0632; the access code is 770674.

The seat opened when Sen. Ray Jones, D-Pikeville, was sworn in as Pike County judge-executive. He was elected in November.

Jones was minority leader when he stepped down. He had been a senator since 2001.

This week, Gov. Matt Bevin called for the requisite special election.

State Sens. Sens. Morgan, D-Louisville, and Johnny Ray Turner, D-Prestonsburg, asked Londrigan to arrange the conference call.
