Morehead News editorial: As unions weaken, who will protect workers?

Gov. Matt Bevin and his union-busting buddies in the General Assembly and the state’s business community are celebrating the lower court ruling upholding Kentucky’s new law that prohibits any requirement that a worker pays union dues as a condition for holding a job.

The Kentucky Right to Work Act was passed by the General Assembly a year ago as one of the first bills enacted after the Republican Party gained control of the Kentucky House.

The Kentucky State AFL-CIO and Teamsters Local 89 filed suit last spring to challenge the law. They are appealing this week’s ruling by Franklin County Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate.
