Union members are invited to help swell the crowd at Saturday's "Support Public Schools" rally in Paducah's Noble Park.

"Please join us as we come together in support of pensions, teacher rights, student safety and education funding," said organizer Keaton Conner, a student at Marshall County High School, where in January, a 15-year-old male, armed with a handgun, killed two fellow students and wounded 14 more.

The program starts at 1 p.m. in the park's amphitheater.

The speaker's list is growing. Conner has lined up Kentucky State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Wiggins of Reidland to speak on behalf of organized labor.

So far, the lineup includes a trio of Kentucky State AFL-CIO-endorsed candidates for the state legislature: Julie Tennyson of Paducah, who is running for the Senate; and House hopefuls Al Cunningham, Benton, and Desiree Owen, Barlow.

Also confirmed are Linda Story Edwards and Drew Williams, who are Cunningham's challengers in Tuesday's Democratic primary, and Alonzo Pennington and Paul Walker, Democratic primary candidates for Congress in the First District.

The rest of the lineup includes Conner and two other MCHS students--Lane Alexander and Taylor Edwards; Reidland Middle School teacher Sarah DeLuna Thompson, Dr. Sally Williams Sugg, Henderson County school board; Chris Taylor, McCracken County school board; Marshall countian Charles Paisley, Amanda Groves, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth; and Daniel Hurt, Kentucky Young Democrats and the Kentucky Democratic Party State Central Committee.

Conner said she is also reaching out to Republicans.

Conner said that after the legislative session and the rallies ended, she "wanted to keep the conversation going." She enlisted Kentuckians for the Commonwealth to help her organize the rally.
