Funeral services for Joe Phelps will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., Louisville.

Visitation wil be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the funeral.

Phelps was a longtime member of BCTGM and the Greater Louisville CLC. He was also the United Way Labor Liaison.

"Ditch Mitch" isn't just a Kentucky-made (and union-made) bumper sticker any more. 

I'm getting fund-raising emails from "Ditch Mitch," a Washington, D.C, outfit that bills itself "as a grassroots organization...solely dedicated to taking on Mitch McConnell, holding him accountable, and supporting his future Democratic opponent in 2020."

I've chipped in a few dollars. I've also sent the Ditch Mitchers emails, hoping they might result in a story for our website. I've yet to hear back.

A bill that would cut jobless benefits for unemployed Kentuckians advanced to the state House floor on Thursday after the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce told lawmakers it would “get people back to work quicker.”

EDITOR'S NOTE: Polls show that health care is one of the top isssues among voters. Most Republicans remain wedded to the country's private health care system. At least in principle, most Democrats favor universal health care,  though they disasgree on how to achieve it. The Kentucky State AFL-CIO is one of many union organizations nationwide that has endorsed a single payer program, which is advocated by Kentuckians for Single Payer Health Care.
