Kevin Walton

Kevin Walton is a committed labor leader whose work reflects a lifelong dedication to
solidarity, fairness, and opportunity for working people. He currently serves as
Recording Secretary of the Kentucky AFL-CIO, President of the Tri-County
Council of Labor, Legislative Agent for United Steelworkers District 8, and Guide
for United Steelworkers Local 9443 Amalgamation. In each of these roles, Kevin
emphasizes collaboration, inclusion, and accountability, earning recognition for his
ability to listen, unite diverse perspectives, and move initiatives forward with clarity and
purpose.
In 2022, Kevin was honored with the Spirit of the Fight Award, recognizing his tireless
commitment to advancing workers’ rights and strengthening the labor movement. His
leadership is marked by persistence, adaptability, and an unwavering belief in the power
of solidarity to create meaningful change.
A highlight of Kevin’s work is the development of the History of Unions program, which
preserves and shares the personal narratives of union members. By focusing on lived
experiences, Kevin ensures that the sacrifices and victories of the labor movement
remain relevant and inspiring for the next generation. His vision is to transform this work
into a lasting educational project, whether through a book, video series, or school
curriculum.
Kevin’s leadership philosophy is rooted in lessons learned through his union
experience: the importance of accepting criticism, adapting, and continuing to push
ahead. These qualities not only strengthen his work within organized labor but also
shape the example he sets for others in the movement.
Outside of his union responsibilities, Kevin values connection and community. Known
for his love of cooking—particularly his signature smoked brisket—he often uses food
as a way to bring people together, reinforcing the bonds of solidarity that are central to
his work.
Kevin Walton continues to serve with the belief that leadership is not about titles but
about building trust, fostering unity, and ensuring that every voice is heard.
