Congressman Morgan McGarvey’s Veterans Legislation Round Up

Ahead of his first annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast, Congressman McGarvey released the following information regarding his work serving 34,664 Louisville veterans as a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee:  

 

  • H.R. 3981 - The Isakson-Roe Education Oversight Expansion Act (lead sponsor)

o    Passing the House unanimously, this legislation will strengthen the oversight of educational entities that are recipients of GI Bill education benefits and help our vets access the education benefits they’ve earned without fear of being defrauded

 

  • The Veteran and Servicemember Consumer Protection Act (lead sponsor)
    • This legislation directs the FTC to create a coordinator position within the Bureau of Consumer Protection to prevent fraud targeting veterans and servicemembers and to monitor mail, TV, robocalls, and other fraud schemes targeting them

       
  • HR 1378 - Veterans’ Appeals Backlog Improvement Act (democratic co-lead)
    • This bipartisan bill would improve the Board of Veterans’ Appeals ability to hire qualified attorneys and address the backlog of disability claims

       
  • HR 1606  - Veteran Entrepreneurship Training Act (Co-lead)
    • This bill provides statutory authority for the Boots to Business Program, which provides entrepreneurship training to individuals including veterans and active members of the Armed Forces, to be administered by the Small Business Administration
