Reps. Scott and Booker headline Paducah 'Day of Action' on Saturday
EDITOR'S NOTE: The Kentucky State AFL-CIO endorsed the entire Democratic ticket for the Nov. 5 election and endorsed Scott and Booker in 2018.
State Reps. Attica Scott and Charles Booker, both Louisville Democrats, will be the featured speakers at a "Stand Up, Speak Out" program set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Paducah's Washington Street Baptist Church, 721 Washington St.
The program is sponsored by the McCracken County Democratic Party.
Scott and Booker will talk about "civic engagement, overcoming barriers, and getting out the vote," said Jennifer Smith, McCracken County Democratic chair.
"With less than 6 weeks until Election Day, it is time to call for all hands on deck in working towards electing Andy Beshear, and our entire ticket of outstanding candidates," she urged.
Starting at 10 a.m., Smith added, "we will have shifts for canvassing and phone calls, with additional shifts at 1pm. and 3pm. Due to 'Barbeque on the River,' we will meet at the Laborer's Hall at 1415 S. 3rd St."
Smith said that "Attica and Charles have been true voices for the people in Frankfort, speaking out for people of color, and the disenfranchised, and this is your opportunity to voice your needs, and concerns for our state and community."
Attorney Abigail Barnes is also part of the program at the church. She "will do a presentation to provide information and resources for help with restoring voting privileges, and we will also be doing voter registration," Smith said. "Together, we can have conversations with hundreds of voters, which increases our odds of electing our candidates on November 5."
