WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 6, 2024) – Congressman McGarvey (KY-03) joined a bipartisan Congressional Delegation trip traveling to Normandy, France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. The delegation will participate in observances of the anniversary along with World War II veterans and their families, active duty service members, government and military officials, and foreign dignitaries.

“I’m so honored to join this bipartisan delegation to visit Normandy and pay my respect to all those who bravely served our country eighty years ago,” said Rep. McGarvey. “This visit means a lot to me — not just as a Member of Congress, but as the grandson of World War II veterans. It’s such a privilege to be able to meet servicemembers who landed on the beaches in 1944, to honor the memories of the American lives lost in the war, and show our bipartisan support for the last of the greatest generation.”

“Eighty years ago, these brave servicemembers went directly into conflict because they knew that the future of civilization was at stake,” said Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. "We remember the remarkable courage under fire of our veterans and know that America is free only because of their extraordinary bravery. It is an honor to co-lead this delegation on behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives as we reaffirm America’s commitment to stand with our allies and ensure that freedom and democracy will always prevail.”

Congressman McGarvey joins members of House Democratic Leadership, Leader Hakeem Jefferies and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, on the delegation.
