Frankfort, KY—With less than 90 days until the general election, Matt Bevin is still facing sharp criticism and backlash from Republican officials and voters across Kentucky.

“From his own lieutenant governor to Republican voters in southeastern Kentucky, Matt Bevin can’t escape his deeply unpopular and failed record of bullying and trying to rip away pensions and health care,” said Marisa McNee, spokesperson for the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Here’s what they’re saying about Matt Bevin facing backlash from Republican officials and voters:

“Look, I did not talk to him. I’ve never talked with him about the dismissals. My staff has not been treated right and I stand by my staff.” - Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton on Matt Bevin saying they have a “great relationship”

“I mentioned the governor’s name as much as he mentioned my name, if I remember correctly.” - Republican Congressman James Comer on not campaigning for Bevin at Fancy Farm

“I would vote for anybody before I would vote for him.” - Ailenea Sexton, a Trump-supporting Republican voter at an event with Mike Pence in southeastern Kentucky

“We just don’t like what he’s doing with the teacher retirement system.” - Ben Webb, a Trump-supporting Republican voter at an event with Mike Pence in southeastern Kentucky

“Governor Bevin doesn’t have really a surrogate out there for himself at this point. Robert Goforth… who he ran against in the primary… still says he hasn’t heard anything from the Bevin campaign.” - Louisville Courier Journal’s Phillip Bailey on KET’s Comment on Kentucky
