Dear Brothers/ Sisters,
The Kentucky Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) invites you to join us at our Twenty Ninth Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Our 2024 program theme will be “Never Back, Always Forward: Hate Cannot Erase Us”
We are excited to present at our 2024 awards banquet our keynote speaker:
Dr. Donna McDaniel Mitchell, vice President of the LIUNA African American Caucus
The dinner will be held at:
UAW Local 862 Union Hall,
3000 Fern Valley Road Louisville, KY.
Hospitality at 5:00 p.m., program at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Since the founding of CBTU, our goal has been to enhance the influence and power of black workers in the trade union movement and in their communities. CBTU has led efforts to open more union leadership positions to women, African Americans and other minorities.
In the AFL-CIO elections for new leadership in 1995, CBTU challenged the federation "to reorganize itself to reach out to those who need it most" - women and minorities. Subsequently, the AFL-CIO enlarged its Executive Council. Today, African Americans, women, Asian Pacific Islanders and Hispanic leaders hold 13 of the council's 51 seats. This infusion of diversity is helping to energize the labor movement in the new globalized American economy.
Our chapter locally works in coalition with the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI), the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and the local branch of the Nation Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Get out the Vote (GOTV) efforts.
Enclosed is the registration form for tickets and ads in the program booklet. Your support helps us to continue these worthwhile efforts.
In Solidarity,
George Knight Jr.,
Chapter President
