EDITOR'S NOTE: The Kentucky State AFL-CIO endorsed Darrell Pugh.

On Tuesday, February 26th, all of the living Democratic governors of Kentucky will be hosting an evening in Lexington to support our State Senate special election candidate, Darrell Pugh. You can RSVP for the event here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/feb26

Here is what you need to know about the race:

  • Pugh and Wheeler are vying to succeed Ray Jones who stepped down from the Senate to run for Pike County judge-executive. We must hold this seat.

  • Darrell Pugh is the Democratic candidate running in the special election in State Senate District 31. Pugh is a small business owner from Pikeville and is an advocate for implementing policy that supports quality jobs with quality pay.  The AFL-CIO has endorsed Pugh for his promise to repeal “right to work” and reinstate the prevailing wage. Pugh opposes private school vouchers, favors affordable healthcare for all Kentuckians, backs a defined benefits pension plan for public employees and is against privatizing public services. Pugh was first to release a  TV ad. The spot portrays Wheeler as GOP Gov. Matt Bevin's puppet.

  • Pugh's opponent is Republican Phillip Wheeler, also of Pikeville. A trial attorney who takes money from the Bluegrass Committee, a McConnell PAC that puts corporate greed over worker’s needs. Wheeler is yet another puppet, loyal to Matt Bevin and Mitch McConnell — who work with out of state millionaires to put a thumb on the scale in Kentucky’s elections.

  • Republicans are using the same old, tired attacks in deceptive mail pieces and TV commercials—no substance, no new ideas, no details about what they plan to do for the hardworking families of Kentucky. The Republican Party of Kentucky launched a round of direct mail and TV attack ads in the race last week in an attempt to install Bevin’s hand-picked candidate in the Senate.
