Kentucky 120 United-American Federation of Teachers issued statements today honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

From KY 120 United AFT:As we honor Dr. King today, we reflect with his insight on public education: “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically, Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We look forward to advocating for a public school system that Dr. King would have been proud of.

From Eddie Campbell, KEA president:

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve racial equality. The annual celebration of Dr. King’s birthday is a time for us to reflect and take action on civil rights issues that are important to our communities and the educational success of our students. ALL STUDENTS, no matter the color of their skin or the zip code in which they live, deserve a fair and just society in which to live and grow. Click here for lessons and resources on Martin Luther King, Jr.
