Paducah-based IBEW Local 816’s sick and needy fund is $880 richer thanks to Lyndee Dunn.
“I wanted to raise money for a cause, and my dad told me about the sick and needy,” explained the 9-year-old daughter of Local 816 member Josh Dunn.
Lyndee opened a lemonade stand in her yard last summer and earned $80. “We’d been talking about the local holding a fund raiser and hadn’t got anything going,” said her dad.
“She inspired us. We had a cookout and raised $800.”
The Dunns live in Mayfield, where Lyndee is a fourth grader at the city elementary school.
Her mom, Cindy, helped up her mix the lemonade and set up the stand, complete with a big cardboard sign.
Lyndee’s effort did not go unheralded. When Local 816 had t-shirts printed up to advertise the cookout, Lyndee was pictured on the back.
“The sick and needy program is for our members who get sick or hurt and have to be out of work for a long time,” said Dunn, adding that members can use the funds to help make ends meet.
