The Oldham Era: Union officials question courthouse construction worker pay

Accompanied by a stogie-smoking “fat cat” inflatable, representatives from the International Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union (BAC) set up in La Grange this morning for an “informational picket” about alleged non-English-speaking laborers they believe are being underpaid without benefits for work performed at the courthouse construction site.

Dustin Reinstedler, Field Representative for Local 4 Kentucky-Indiana of BAC, monitors the region and travels to worksites to not only recruit members, but to investigate the fair treatment and compensation of workers, union or non-union.

He said a bilingual union translator recently spoke with several workers at the courthouse site, managed by Wehr Constructors.
