Louisville Courier-Journal op-ed: Solving Kentucky pension crisis requires tax reform, more revenue and clear heads | Taylor
By JEFF TAYLOR
"Am I my brother's keeper?" (Gen 4:9)
This is a question we would do well to ask ourselves regarding the state’s pension crisis. We all have family, friends and neighbors who are anxious about the pension crisis. Do legislators have a responsibility to keep pensions intact? Of course they do.
Being the case ponders this. With the pension being the most pressing issue facing the state, why didn’t the General Assembly make it a priority during session? Why were bills for charter schools, right to work and prevailing wage given top billing? The answer is because those in power choose politics over priorities, at the expense of those that choose careers of service.
