Statement from AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

The HEROES Act has been sitting on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s desk for 67 days. During that time period, 63,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus and hundreds of thousands have gotten infected from this awful disease. Senator McConnell and his allies have wasted the country’s time, refusing to release their own relief proposal. This week, the AFL-CIO and our affiliates are taking action to demand the Senate do its job by investing in our nation’s health and our nation’s workers.

Action Alert: Call Your Senators Today to Urge Passage of the HEROES Act

With the Senate back in session this week, negotiations are underway on a new stimulus package to help get America through the pandemic and the economic crisis. For months, the labor movement has been demanding passage of the HEROES Act that includes the vast majority of America’s Five Economic Essentials. Tomorrow, the AFL-CIO is having a day of action encouraging union members to call their senators and urge them to pass the HEROES Act now. Make sure to use this form as we track the thousands of calls placed to the U.S. Senate today.
