Your editor got this email from Bonnie Feldkamp, opinion editor at the Louisville Courier-Journal:

I want to make sure that we do not forget about tornado victims as unaffected people get on with their lives in the year. I wrote the column below on how to write an op-ed to encourage more people who may not be writers to contribute more. I would love it if you could share in your circles so those who may want an outlet to be heard know that the op-ed pages are here for them, too. I don’t’ mind working on drafts with people. I want to hear their stories as they recover and rebuild.

Many of our union brothers and sisters and their families were victims of the deadly and devastating tornado that struck western Kentucky on the night of Dec. 10. Here is your chance to tell your important story.

A footnote: Kudos to Mayfield Electric and Water power line crews--members of Paducah-based IBEW Local 816--who braved Thursday's swirling snow and numbing cold to continue their vital work of restoring power to tornado-ravaged sections of my old hometown.
