State Director, Kentucky State Building and Construction Trades Council

A devastating bill has been filed to dramatically lower unemployment insurance benefits.

Our members who work under a union referral procedure would suffer a 32 percent cut in unemployment benefits. Every other Kentuckian would suffer up to a 40 percent cut in unemployment benefits. The Republican majorities in Frankfort filed simultaneous legislation, HB-317 and  SB-171, both backed by Governor Matt Bevin.

The attacks on Kentucky’s working families continue with this legislation to cause more harm by lowering the unemployment weekly benefit by 11½ percent and then cut off benefits at 20 weeks instead of 26 weeks.
