SBOE did not approve voting plan for SD19 special election

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Kentucky State AFL-CIO endorsed Armstrong

Louisville, Ky. - Today, the State Board of Elections did not approve the Jefferson County Clerk’s election plan for the special election in Senate District 19. Cassie Chambers Armstrong, the democratic nominee in the special election, released the following statement:

"Voting is a fundamental right, and our democracy works better when elections are free, fair, and accessible to all. I’m glad that the members of the State Board of Elections withheld approval today for the voting plan proposed in this special election. I look forward to seeing an updated plan with more Election Day polling locations to serve the voters of the 19th Senate District.”

The election plan that did not receive approval today proposed two polling locations in the district and two outside of the district. There were 40 polling locations in SD19 in the November general election. The special election is scheduled for February 21, 2023.
