From Gov. Andy Beshear: We continue to follow in Dr. King's footsteps
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Today we honor Dr. King and his vision to build a country committed to justice, equality, and fairness for all people. I am proud to connect with you on a day and at a time when social and economic equality, racial justice, and voting rights are at the forefront of the American conscience.
In 1964, 10,000 Kentuckians marched alongside Dr. King in Frankfort, calling for an end to discrimination and segregation. That march helped lead to Kentucky signing the first state civil rights act in the South.
We can learn so much from those years. When we come together and put our differences aside, there is truly nothing we cannot accomplish.
We still have a long ways to go to make Dr. King's dream a reality. But know that I will walk with you — every single Kentuckian, every step of the way — as we continue forward.
Thank you.
Andy
