From the Henderson Gleaner: Henderson's Coomes earns Lifetime Achievement award from Kentucky AFL-CIO
HENDERSON, Ky. - John Coomes, a longtime activist for labor who has worked on numerous community projects, has been awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Kentucky AFL-CIO for his public service efforts.
Coomes, the current president of the Tri-County Council of Labor, was given the Lewis Hicks Lifetime Achievement Award and "was lauded for his work on Habitat for Humanity houses, the Perch mini-park, his efforts to register voters and his efforts to get youth into trades apprenticeships," according to retired educator Roy Pullam.
The 33rd meeting of the state AFL-CIO was held Monday and Tuesday in Lexington, Ky., and "The loud applause and the standing ovation illustrates how respected John is across the state labor councils," Pullam wrote in an email to The Gleaner.
