KDP Condemns Republicans Defunding Rural News Sources and Emergency Alerts

 

 

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Today, Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) Chair Colmon Elridge released the following statement, condemning Kentucky Republicans for snatching promised funding from rural news and weather alert sources, including KET, WEKU and WKYU, in a cynical political move:

 

“Kentucky Republicans like Rep. Jamie Comer have led the charge against the TV and radio stations keeping every city, town and holler of our Commonwealth informed. Snatching this funding — already promised by Congress to outlets like KET, WEKU and WKYU — will force rural stations to end programs, cut jobs or even shut down. Unlike the GOP, Democrats understand a person’s zip code should not determine whether they have access to breaking local news, weather alerts, educational programs and homegrown political reporting."
