“But when they are not getting paid to stop work, it is remarkable nobody seems to be that interested, they don’t care quite as much.”

Kentucky Democratic Party

Frankfort, KY-- Governor Matt Bevin made the rounds on talk radio this morning and continued his attacks on Kentucky’s educators.

Speaking on the Brian Thomas show on 55KRC in Cincinnati, Bevin discussed the recent Labor Cabinet claim that more than 1,000 teachers broke the law while advocating at the state capitol for more funding for public education. He concluded the interview by doubling down and threatening teachers who choose to participate in future events at the capitol. He also suggested that teachers don’t really care about their pensions or public education and only show up when they are getting paid.

Bevin threatens future action by teachers:

“These people could have each been fined up to $1,000 per day and the state realized that this was a teaching opportunity. And so the cabinet secretary and the investigators decided, listen we’ll show some grace… and we’ll use this as a teachable moment…  and it’s not going to be tolerated in the future.”

Bevin belittles teachers:

“To your point though Brian, this same bill came forward again this summer when no one was in school and nobody showed up….. When it’s vacation time, people are a little less worked up it seems...But it’s interesting that people most seem to enjoy doing this, stopping work, when they get paid anyway. But when they are not getting paid to stop work, it is remarkable nobody seems to be that interested, they don’t care quite as much.
