Frankfort, KY — With election day around the corner and hiscampaign in shambles, Matt Bevin is desperately trying to hide his record of taking away coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

A new ad features a Kentuckian talking about Matt Bevin’s callous approach to health care coverage and how out of touch he is with Kentucky values. Matt Bevin’s response is to attack and try to distract from his real record on health care.

Just this summer, Bevin joined a lawsuit that would allow insurance companies to deny essential coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, including prescription drug coverage, mental health services, maternity care, hospitalization, and chronic disease management and more. The American Medical Association said Bevin’s proposals would “revive pre-existing condition discrimination.”

And earlier this month, Bevin refused to support a bill that would codify protections for people with pre-existing health conditions into state law, saying “I think we should go back” to high-risk insurance pools that were a disaster for Kentuckians.

“This week’s deflections from Governor Bevin reveal how hard he’s trying to prevent Kentuckians from knowing his record of trying to rip health care away from our families,” said Marisa McNee, Kentucky Democratic Party Spokesperson. “Under Matt Bevin’s disastrous health care agenda, insurance companies could go back to denying coverage for prescription drugs, mental health services, maternity care and more. He would return to a time without protections for pre-existing conditions. Andy Beshear will continue to put Kentucky families first by protecting affordable health care and expanding access.”
