From the KDP: Paying for Pardons: Major Matt Bevin Donor Involved in Pardons Scheme Throws Fundraiser for Daniel Cameron
KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
Frankfort, Ky. - Daniel Cameron talks tough on crime, but tomorrow Kentucky's top cop will stand next to a donor involved in Matt Bevin's pardon of a murderer – all part of Bevin’s pardon scheme that Cameron refused to investigate. Numerous elected officials including Republican Senate President Robert Stivers and Senator Mitch McConnell have criticized and called for federal and state investigations into Bevin’s heinous and dangerous pardons, all of which Cameron has failed to act on. Major concerns were raised about the timing of campaign contributions and access to Bevin related to the pardon of convicted murderer, Patrick Baker, who Terry Forcht advocated for. Forcht not only threw Bevin a fundraiser but then sent a series of letters advocating for Baker’s release. Forcht has also come under scrutiny for alleged neglect and understaffing of the nursing home he owns.
“It’s clear that Daniel Cameron would much rather take a check from Terry Forcht than investigate Matt Bevin’s heinous pardons of child rapists and murderers,” said Kentucky Democratic Party spokesperson Anna Breedlove. “First, Cameron filled his office with former Bevin staffers who were directly involved in the pardon scandal, and now he’s taking a check from someone who helped bankroll Bevin while pushing for the pardon of a murderer–this is a slap in the face to the victims, their families, law enforcement, and the prosecutors who helped take these dangerous criminals off the street. Cameron is no better than his buddy Bevin who would exchange justice for a campaign check.”
