EDITOR'S NOTE: "Rep. Angie Hatton, D-Whitesburg, was also elected House minority whip, making this the first time a party's caucus in the state legislature will have two women in leadership positions," wrote the Louisville Courier-Journal's Joe Sonka. Hatton, Jenkins, a Shively Democrat; and Rep. Derrick Graham, D-Frankfort, caucus chair; are three of organized labor's strongest supporters in Frankfort. Click here to read Sonka's story.

From the KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

The following is a statement from Ben Self, chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party, on the House Democratic Caucus electing Rep. Joni Jenkins as minority floor leader:

“Today is a historic day for our commonwealth and the Kentucky Democratic Party. Congratulations to Minority Floor Leader Joni Jenkins for being the first woman to lead either party’s caucus, as well as to Caucus Chair Derrick Graham and Minority Whip Angie Hatton on their elections. Today, Democrats broke new ground in not only Leader Jenkins’ election, but in electing two women to leadership positions. It’s great seeing a diverse leadership team leading House Democrats in Kentucky.”
