Union Family,
The 2024-2025 school year is underway and a lot is heating up ahead of the November 5th elections. We have our sights on defeating Amendment 2, which, if passed, will destroy and defund our public schools. We must educate ourselves and each other on how much this terrible piece of legislation would be for the nearly 640,000 kids we serve.
VOTE NO ON 2
The General Assembly has passed legislation for Kentuckians to finally settle how the state will fund charter schools and voucher programs at the polls through a Constitutional amendment. Amendment 2 is very confusing and purposefully vague on how public dollars, currently earmarked specifically for public schools, will be used moving forward. What does this mean? It means that a pot of finite money that has been specifically carved out for the 600,000 plus students public schools serve in Kentucky will be divvied up amongst unaccountable private and charter schools.
This is not ok.
We will aggressively fight this at the polls and will be working with partners to get the truth out about this amendment. We encourage you to save the image below and share on your social media, with your colleagues, and with family and friends. It will take us all. We know this will harm the rural schools and decimate communities where the school district is the largest employer. Now is the time to dig in and push back! Vote NO on Amendment 2! (Also, Amendment 1 is not grounded in fact and is a red herring to get folks to vote yes on it and 2. Vote against it too.)
