Louisville Courier-Journal Op-ed: I'm unapologetically outraged by Trump, McConnell and the America we have become

A few days ago, I went to my study to read in the early morning hours. I have a new book on how to read poetry. How instructive that might have been as poetry tends to be a balm for my soul’s wounds.

For some reason I decided to first take a quick look at the Courier Journal and the New York Times. I don’t know why as I already knew the stories I would read. The same stories had been in news yesterday and the day before: multiple murders in Virginia Beach, conservative political attacks on the Mueller report, the religious right in support of Trump, and Trump’s judicial appointments.

As this is early June there were several welcomed stories on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Although I was only 363 days old on that day, I have read so many books and seen so many old news clips and documentaries that there are times when I recall that day as if I had gone ashore in a landing craft and stood among the corpses of American soldiers.
