Amy McGrath earned a shout out on Hardball With Chris Matthews for yanking her campaign advertising from WDKY-TV, the Sinclar-owned

touSixth District DemocraticFree media is a critical part of our democracy — and I'm not going to support anyone trying to undermine it.

That’s why earlier today, I instructed my campaign team to pull all campaign advertising on WDKY-TV (Channel 56), the Sinclair-owned television station in our congressional district, as soon as possible.

If you missed it in the news, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group (the country’s largest broadcasting company) forced many of their anchors to push pro-right wing propaganda that eerily mimics the same tactics used by authoritarian regimes to control the media in their own countries.

Sinclair’s corporate-mandated “must-read” right-wing script on its nearly 200 television stations about "fake news" is itself an extreme danger to our democracy. That is the only part that Sinclair got right.

The nearly 20,000 grassroots donors who have contributed to my campaign should have the expectation that their financial support will never be used to enrich these chilling right-wing efforts to stifle the critical role of local journalism to advance their narrow ideological and political agenda.

Together, we can stand up to this threat to our independent media and send a firm message that these actions will not be tolerated in a nation where the freedom of the press is vital.
