MEMO:

This afternoon, in the first general election debate, Kentuckians got a thorough demonstration of why Daniel Cameron should never be governor. We saw him regurgitate tired, partisan talking points—often when they had nothing to do with the topics asked by the moderators. He desperately tried to make the debate about what’s going on in Washington, D.C., because he knows if this race is about what’s going on in the lives of Kentuckians across the commonwealth, he will lose.

Cameron once again hid his real education agenda, carefully avoiding bringing up his continuous and unwavering support for school vouchers–funneling taxpayer dollars into unaccountable private schools. He failed to mention that he chose a running mate who carried the bill that makes it harder for Kentucky’s coal miners who have powered our communities for decades, to get black lung benefits. Cameron tried to pass the buck on crime, even though he’s Kentucky’s top cop–a title he’s been proud to own for the last three years. The fact that he takes no responsibility for crime, despite his current job is one more reason that he doesn’t deserve a promotion to governor.

We are 26 days out from the election, and Cameron refuses to focus on the issues that Kentuckians care about most. He continues to prioritize division over vision rather than delivering real solutions for Kentuckians. There is no way Kentucky voters could have watched today’s debate and think that Cameron is fit to be governor.
