EDITOR’S NOTE, the AFL-CIO endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket.

Ahead of tomorrow’s debate, we [the KDP] wanted to share some toplines and key updates from Team Harris-Walz.

This morning, 10 retired senior military officials endorsed Vice President Harris, citing her strong leadership on the world stage and the threat Donald Trump poses. You can read their letter here → Statement of Support for Vice President Kamala Harris

In addition, we released a new ad showing Donald Trump’s closest national security advisors warning that he is a clear and present threat to American security. In the ad, Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, describe the clear danger Trump poses to our troops and our democracy. Watch and share here → “The Best People

Finally, this weekend, we hosted a Project 2025 Weekend of Action, where tens of thousands of volunteers contacted more than one million voters to highlight the choice between Vice President Harris’ New Way Forward and Trump’s extreme Project 2025 Agenda. Today, across the battlegrounds, we’ll hold nearly 20 events to echo the same message. Read more here → Scripps News: Harris campaign launches pre-debate push to tie Trump to Project 2025

Please see below for toplines ahead of tomorrow’s debate.

TUESDAY’S DEBATE WILL SHOWCASE A CHOICE BETWEEN TWO VERY DIFFERENT VISIONS

  • We expect Donald Trump is going to be ready for the debate. This will be his seventh general election debate – the most of any candidate in modern history – while it is Vice President Harris’ first.
  • He is a showman who won his most recent debate back in June, and we know he has been practicing even more and preparing harder than ever before.
  • His constant lies make it hard for moderators to fact-check him and make him difficult to prepare for, and his team has insisted on muted microphones to keep him as disciplined as possible.
  • Despite all of that, the American people will see, in primetime, the choice in this election between Vice President Harris, who is fighting to make their lives better by increasing economic opportunity and protecting our freedoms, and Donald Trump, who is pushing a dark, backward-looking agenda and is only focused on himself.
  • The Vice President will come to the debate prepared to share her vision for a new way forward for our country that turns the page on the past, and we believe it will crystallize for the American people what is at stake in this election.

TRUMP’S PROJECT 2025 AGENDA WILL GIVE HIM UNPRECEDENTED, UNCHECKED POWER

  • Donald Trump is a convicted felon running to enact his extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda that gives him unprecedented, unchecked power to do whatever he wants.
  • Trump’s first presidency cost the country millions of jobs, left us on the brink of a recession, and gave massive handouts to billionaires and big corporations. He “proudly” overturned Roe and ripped away reproductive freedom from millions of Americans. And he tried to overturn the 2020 election in a desperate attempt to hold onto power.
  • Now, he wants to purge the government of anyone not sufficiently loyal and replace them with MAGA loyalists who will empower him to rule as a dictator on “day one.” Those who worked closest with Trump warn he should not be president again.
  • A second Trump term is more dangerous because he has a plan – Project 2025. It includes:
    • Eliminating the independence of the Department of Justice to give Trump total control and unchecked legal power.
    • Banning abortion nationwide, restricting access to contraception and IVF, and forcing states to report on women’s miscarriages and abortions.
    • Putting Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block and ending the Affordable Care Act.
    • Gutting the Department of Education and all funding for K-12 education.
    • Giving tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations while making working families foot the bill.
    • His plans would increase costs for families by $4,000 a year by slapping a Trump sales tax on goods that families rely on, like gas, food, clothing, and medicine.
  • America has seen the damage Trump inflicted, and we are not going back.

VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS AND GOVERNOR WALZ ARE FIGHTING FOR A NEW WAY FORWARD

  • Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz will build a brighter, more hopeful future where everyone will have a chance to not just get by, but to get ahead.
  • Vice President Harris is a fighter for the people. From her days as a prosecutor to her work as Vice President, she has defended the rights of the American people by standing up to predators, scammers, and powerful interests.
  • As Vice President, she’s helped deliver historic progress across the country, and in Governor Walz, she chose a running mate who shares her vision – and who will be a great governing partner as they deliver for working families.
  • Governor Walz is a lifelong Midwesterner who has delivered for the middle class: he signed the largest tax cut in state history, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, and has stood up for reproductive freedoms. Just like Vice President Harris, he will never stop fighting for working families.

STATE OF THE RACE LESS THAN 60 DAYS OUT

  • Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz remain the clear underdogs in this race.
  • In 2020, this election came down to about 40,000 votes across the battleground states, and we fully anticipate margins to be similarly razor-thin this time.
  • That’s why the Harris-Walz campaign is building on-the-ground infrastructure to win a close, margin-of-error race in the states that will decide this election – with 312 coordinated offices and over 2,000 coordinated staff across the battleground states.
  • We’re turning the historic enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz ticket into real action. August was the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history – nearly 3 million donors gave and almost half were first time donors who did not contribute in 2020. These resources are being put to immediate use, with efforts like last weekend’s record-breaking Weekend of Action and a $370 million paid media campaign
  • In addition to the robust organizing and paid media operations, VP Harris, Gov. Walz, and top surrogates are crisscrossing key states, laying out their vision for a New Way Forward.
  • Tomorrow’s debate will be yet another opportunity for the American people to see, in primetime, the clear choice in this election.
