Nov. 21 Online Program on Child Labor in the U.S.
MEMORANDUM
TO: Principal and Secondary Officers of State Federations
and Area and Central Labor Councils
FROM: AFL-CIO Office of the President
Child labor did not end when labor-backed reforms passed during the first half of the 20th century. In fact, since 2015, there has been an increase in child labor violations throughout the United States, as well as many recent pieces of state legislation proposed to loosen the laws our movement ancestors fought and died for. We encourage you to attend and also share the attached notice of the webinar Child Labor on the Rise: What Unions Can Do, a program to be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 7–8:30 p.m. ET. It will feature a study from the UCLA Labor Center, as well as a more recent legislative struggle in Iowa. Iowa Federation of Labor President Charlie Wishman will join the conversation.
Please register here to receive connection details for the webinar.
This program is sponsored by the United Association for Labor Education (UALE) Taskforce on State Federations and Central Labor Councils, the UCLA Labor Center, and the University of Iowa Labor Center.
Let’s work together to inform ourselves about this important issue.
