From Rep. Joni Jenkins (D-Louisville), Leader, Kentucky House Democratic Caucus

Kentucky lost a true titan with the recent passing of Darryl Owens, a civil rights icon whose legacy also includes championing criminal justice reforms that have made a profound and lasting difference for so many people.

The Kentucky Democratic House Caucus didn’t just lose a former member, we lost a mentor, a statesman, and a beloved friend. Our hearts go out to his wife Brenda, their family, and everyone who knew and cared for him like we did.

Our friend Darryl meant the world to us.  The world is blessed to have had him as long as we did.

For those of you who didn’t know him, Darryl represented Kentucky House District 43 from 2005 to 2018 and he chaired the Judiciary Committee. He was in public service for more than 40 years serving as a district judge, assistant attorney general and as a Jefferson County commissioner.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Jan. 11th at 10am at St. Stephen Church located at 1008 South 15th Street, Louisville, KY 40210. Live streaming of the service will be available on St. Stephen's website www.ssclive.org.

Sincerely yours,

Joni Jenkins
