FANCY FARM, Ky. – Following a tradition like no other in Kentucky politics, Rep. Charles Booker, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, delivered impassioned and unifying remarks during the 142nd Annual Fancy Farm picnic.
In his speech, Booker called out Rand Paul for consistently putting his own interests ahead of the people he serves. Booker told the crowd:
“Kentuckians show up. So that’s why it should be no surprise to anyone that Rand Paul is nowhere to be found. In fact, he’s in Washington right now trying to screw you as we speak.” Booker continued, “Rand Paul is a joke. He’s a clown. He’s an embarrassment. He’s a fraud. He’s a crisis actor. He’s a conspiracy theorist. He’s a liar, and that’s just what Donald Trump had to say about him, and don’t get me started on what Mitch McConnell thinks about Rand Paul.”
Following Rep. Booker’s speech, Kelly Paul responded on Rand Paul’s behalf in a manner that can only be described as despicable. Mrs. Paul used her limited time on stage to spew transphobic, racist, and blatantly untrue comments. “He sent his better half to lie about me because he’s afraid to show up. The Paul family should be ashamed for constantly spreading lies and misrepresenting me. The Senate deserves someone with integrity, and that is why Kentuckians will vote to send me to the United States Senate” Booker said. In contrast to the hateful message shared on behalf of Rand Paul, Booker’s speech shared his vision for a Kentucky New Deal, which will finally deliver a U.S Senate that centers the needs of Kentuckians ahead of corporate PAC money and special interests.
Booker’s speech comes at a critical time for Kentucky. Senator Paul’s lack of leadership and inability to meet the moment for Kentuckians in need has never been more apparent. Unlike his opponent, Booker and his campaign have spent the week crisscrossing the state, delivering aid to Kentuckians in need. On Thursday, the campaign sent vehicles and a 24-foot box truck of donated supplies to Eastern Kentucky for the flood victims. On Friday, in Western Kentucky, the campaign helped build new housing for Kentuckians that lost everything in the December tornadoes.
Booker’s speech reminded Kentuckians that Rand Paul has failed to represent the Commonwealth because he does not care about the Commonwealth. In addition to drawing an important contrast with his opponent, Booker concluded with a rousing and inspiring message about the power of Kentuckians standing together to win our future. From the Hood to the Holler, Kentuckians are rising up to demand a senator who will support our veterans, fully fund community safety, fight for financial freedom, lower healthcare costs, and who will fight to combat climate chaos that has ravaged our Commonwealth. |
