WASHINGTON – As President Joe Biden signed H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, into law, Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-03) released the following statement:

“As of today, it’s official: Kentucky is getting critically needed and long-overdue help, not just for our dire infrastructure needs, but for working families in all 120 counties,” Congressman Yarmuth said. “President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will put Kentuckians to work to finally take bring our Commonwealth’s roads, bridges, and technical capabilities into the 21st century.

“This once-in-a-generation legislation provides $550 billion to fix and modernize our infrastructure, ensure all Americans have access to high-speed internet, invest in clean energy manufacturing, and respond to the climate crisis with the urgency it demands. It will also strengthen our supply chains to ease inflationary pressures, while growing our economy in ways that ensure everyone can get ahead.

“There are too many in Washington and Frankfort who believe that people don’t deserve help or support from their elected leaders. But today, I’m pleased to say that this President and this Congress are back in the business of supporting the people we work for.”

The significance of this legislation to Kentucky, where the economy is so directly tied to advanced auto manufacturing and our logistics and shipping industries, cannot be overstated. These investments include:

  • $5 billion for infrastructure projects across the Commonwealth, including billions for our roads, bridges, airports and disaster mitigation.
  • $400 million for public transit
  • $100 million for broadband internet, in a state where 1-in-20 households don’t have access.
  • $647 million for clean drinking water.

“Bottom line: This legislation will bring good-paying jobs to Kentucky and make life better for families in every corner of our state.”
