WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 20, 2023) – Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement after Republicans failed three times to elect Rep. Jim Jordan as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“With almost three weeks of chaos, infighting and uncertainty, House Republicans have sent Congress home after failing to elect a Speaker of the House again,” said Rep. McGarvey. “Make no mistake — I’m glad Jim Jordan was not elected Speaker. He worked with Trump to overturn the 2020 election, voted for a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions for rape and incest, not to mention the allegations of his coverup in the Ohio State sexual abuse scandal; Jim Jordan was not fit for the Speakership. But we are about to enter our third week without a Speaker and House Republicans are further away from securing a leader, with no clear end in sight. There is, however, a bipartisan path forward. Democrats stand ready to get back to work for the American people and end these political games once and for all.”
