From the AFL-CIO: The Labor Wire
We thank Jeff Wiggins for sending us this.
The clock is ticking: Unless Congress and President Donald Trump act, there are three days until the government shuts down for the second time in less than a month. Working people are ready to rise up again and tell Congress and the White House that we won’t stand for another shutdown.
Message of the Day—No More ShutdownsThe last shutdown lasted for 35 days—the longest in U.S. history—and took an enormous toll on America’s workers who were promised back pay: Thousands of working people still haven’t seen a cent, and more than 1 million federal workers lost a month’s pay and will never be made wholeunless Congress acts.
Working Americans cannot afford another shutdown.
Congress returns to Washington this afternoon. Take action NOW.
Tell your elected officials that working people don’t want another shutdown.

Quote of the Day
“For five weeks...that’s pretty much 10 percent of your annual income. Some people might never recover from that. If we don’t get back pay, people are going to pick up and go and find a job that is more secure...the brain drain for this job is going to be tremendous.” —Steve Ching, vice president of Machinists (IAM) Local 2061, on the impact of the last shutdown
