KDP FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST GOP CANDIDATE IN SD-31 SPECIAL ELECTION

WHEELER CAMPAIGN FAILS TO REPORT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM REPUBLICAN PARTY OF KENTUCKY

Frankfort, KY— On Friday, the Kentucky Democratic Party filed a complaint with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance (KREF) alleging the Republican candidate for the state’s 31st Senate District violated KRS 121.150(1) and KRS 121.180(3).

The complaint alleges:

“...mailers were sent out by the Republican Party of Kentucky (“RPK”) on behalf of Respondent. These contributions have not been made to Respondent through his duly appointed campaign treasurer in violation of KRS 121.150(1), and these contributions have not been reported to the Registry in violation of KRS 121.180(3). Upon information and belief, the expenditure also has not been reported as an independent expenditure by the RPK as required by KRS 121.150(1).”

The complaint requests that the “Kentucky Registry of Election Finance take immediate action to investigate fully the violations of campaign finance law alleged in this complaint and all other otherwise illegal conduct that might surface during the course of the investigation using its subpoena powers and power to compel production of documents and testimony of witnesses.”

“The voters deserve to know who is funding the Wheeler campaign and how much money is being spent on his behalf, “ said Marisa McNee, spokesperson for the Kentucky Democratic Party. “If Mr. Wheeler is unwilling to follow basic campaign finance laws or be transparent with the public how can they ever trust him to represent them in Frankfort?”
