KENTUCKY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

LOUISVILLE, KY — On Tuesday, the Director of Policy and Gov. Affairs for a partisan, out-of-state interest group, that supports the re-election of Governor Matt Bevin, attacked a reporter for calling their most recent campaign ad ‘transphobic.’ The comments come after

Lexington-Herald Leader political reporter, Daniel Desrochers, highlighted a video the American Principles Project released Monday that called transgender girls a threat to Kentucky high school sports.

Desrochers’ tweet said: “A group supporting Bevin has launched a transphobic ad hitting Andy Beshear for supporting the Equality Act. It's running only on digital.”

American Principles Project Director Jon Schweppe then attacked the reporter’s integrity in a tweet: “Hi @drdesrochers. Can you define “transphobic”? Kind of an odd word choice for a “journalist” to use. Also, for the class, can you explain how replacing “sex” with the vague term  “gender identity” under civil rights law wouldn’t result in exactly what our ad portrayed?”

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana and Kentucky (PPAIK) strongly opposes these aggressive tactics used against the media and transgender communities and issued the following response via Twitter:

.@APProject, an out-of-state interest group that supports @GovMattBevin, released an ad attacking equality for ALL Kentuckians. Bevin has divided our communities w/ hateful rhetoric. In KY, we value equality for all & won’t fall for tricks that pit us against one other. #WeAreKY.
