From the KDP: Teachers, Local Eastern Kentuckians Hold “Won’t Be Bullied By Bevin” Press Conference in Pikeville to Call Bevin Out For His Failures

Frankfort, KY – This morning, local Eastern Kentucky teachers and workers joined together for a press conference in Pikeville, for the second stop of the statewide “Won’t Be Bullied By Bevin” tour to hold Matt Bevin accountable for his disastrous record of insulting educators and attacking working families. The “Won’t Be Bullied By Bevin” tour began this week in Henderson. 

“With less than a month until election day, Eastern Kentuckians are not forgetting Matt Bevin’s record of knocking down our teachers and public schools,” said State Rep. Chris Harris. “Public schools are the biggest employer in our community, so every time he tries to tear down our teachers and public education it hurts our economy. This governor’s attacks and insults show that he simply does not respect working families.”

“Matt Bevin’s callous attacks on educators demonstrate that this governor cannot be trusted to protect the needs of our families here in Eastern Kentucky,” said State Rep. Angie Hatton. “Eastern Kentuckians know that public education is on the ballot this November, and that’s why momentum is building to elect Andy Beshear.”

“As public school teachers, we’re on the front lines of economic development and lifting up families in Pike County, and the last thing we need is a governor who will tear us down,” said Trish Click, a high school teacher from Johnson County. “We’re finished being belittled and called names. We will not be bullied. We’re ready to elect Andy Beshear who will respect workers and protect our pensions.”

Charles “Hawkeye” Dixon, a retired coal miner said, “This is not just about one group, this is about every man and woman in this commonwealth, we’re all under attack. If we stand united we can beat Bevin and all his cronies and bring back good paying jobs to Kentucky. We stand with the teachers of this state to beat this governor.”
