ICYMI: Mitch McConnell Thinks The Health and Safety of Kentucky Children Isn’t Serious
“Well I think they fear more, children being stuck at home”
By KENNY COLSTONKentucky Democratic PartyFrankfort, KY — As school districts across the country grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic and what school will look like in the fall, U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell apparently thinks it’s a good idea to say parents fear being with their children more than their children’s health and safety.
According to a Washington Post reporter, in response to a serious question about the safety of reopening schools to in-person learning this year, McConnell made an unusual comment about parents being more scared of being home with their children than the pandemic.
“Well I think they fear more, children being stuck at home,” McConnell said.
The comment comes as McConnell has been traveling the state in staged photo ops while he continues his months-long delay of further federal funding relief for working families, state governments and school districts.
“Kentucky’s children are not political pawns for whatever game Mitch McConnell is trying to play. If McConnell did his job, America might be in a position for in-person instruction later this year. Instead, Mitch has refused to quicken the production of needed PPE, he has refused to continue federal assistance for working families and he has delayed every step of the way in response to the pandemic,” Kentucky Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa McNee said. “What Kentuckians should fear is another six years of Mitch McConnell.”
