AFL-CIO Applauds Legislation to Protect Workers’ Health Care Coverage
Statement from AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the introduction of the Worker Health Coverage Protection Act by House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott and Reps. Steven Horsford and Debbie Dingell:
We commend Chairman Scott and Reps. Horsford and Dingell for making working people’s health care coverage a top priority as we navigate the coronavirus crisis. The Worker Health Coverage Protection Act will ensure that workers can maintain our health insurance coverage even if we lose our job, are furloughed or lose significant hours of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An astounding 23 to 35 million Americans could lose coverage due to job loss alone, so it is crucial that during this health emergency no one face the harsh dilemma of choosing to provide for our family or seek care for this deadly disease.
We urge Congress and the president to resume negotiations over pandemic relief legislation and quickly enact this essential program.
