Millions of our brothers and sisters who work as federal contractors lost a month’s pay during the longest government shutdown in history, and unless Congress acts, they won’t be made whole.

Demand #FairnessForFederalContractors now!

Message of the Day—
#FairnessForFederalContractors

Federal contractors—like Machinists (IAM) members who work at NASA and UNITE HERE members who work in cafeterias at the Smithsonian—were not included in the legislation passed by Congress to restore back pay for federal workers.

The AFL-CIO is supporting the bipartisan Fairness for Federal Contractors Act of 2019, introduced by Rep. Donald Norcross (N.J.) and co-sponsored by Rep. Chris Smith (N.J.), to right that wrong.

“Every day that Congress fails to advance Rep. Norcross’ legislation, the fallout from this manufactured crisis will continue to hurt the workers who make America run every day,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka (UMWA).

Take action now, and ask your member of Congress to co-sponsor theFairness for Federal Contractors Act of 2019 (H.R. 824).

Kitchen Table Economics

$3 billion: The amount of money the shutdown cost the economy that cannot be recovered.

Quote of the Day

“Federal workers and their families endured incredible hardship during this government shutdown at no fault of their own—and it’s clear they should not have to lose their paychecks.” —Rep. Norcross
