"As a people's lawyer, farmer's daughter, and a small business owner, the union values are very important to me," says Helen Bukulmez.

"Kentucky's working families are the backbone of our economy, and it is our obligation to support the work of the unions. I am honored and very grateful to have the support of my union sisters and brothers as I fight to protect our rights and preserve our individual liberties in the 22nd [Senate] District."

Bukulmez is vying with Dr. Donald Douglas, a Republican; and Sindicat “Sid” Dunn, an independent write-in candidate, to fill out the unexpired term of Sen. Tom Buford, a Republican, who died in July.

The district includes Garrard, Jessamine, Mercer and Washington counties plus part of Fayette County.

Bukulmez is one of three Democrats the Kentucky State AFL-CIO unanimously endorsed in a trio of special elections set for Nov. 2.

Bukulmez thanked the state AFL-CIO for its "valuable support and endorsement."

Her campaign website is HelenforKentucky.com. She also has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HelenforKentucky.

The other Democrats are:

HD 51 – Eddie Rogers -- Taylor and Adair counties

HD 89 – Mae Suramek (D) – Madison (part), Jackson and Laurel (part) counties.
