FRANKFORT – (Tuesday, June 27)

Credible news reports and public records of Attorney General Cameron’s solicitation of campaign funds for his gubernatorial campaign from employees of an addiction recovery center that is under investigation by his office raises serious concerns about Attorney General Cameron’s compliance with campaign finance statutes.

And this not the first time questions have been raised concerning campaign contributions and the conflicts of interests with Attorney General Cameron’s ethical and legal obligations.  On April 26, 2023, a complaint was filed with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission over Cameron’s refusal to recuse himself from a lawsuit in which he is a named defendant involving the so-called gray machines after receiving tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from one of the plaintiffs.

It is a certainty that Attorney General Cameron’s campaign will claim this request for an investigation by the Executive Branch Ethics Commission is politically motivated. The reality is that it is only appropriate, timely and legally important for an investigation be undertaken by the appropriate authority and such a request needed to be made to protect the public trust in our campaign finance system, ensure accountability for elected officials, and protect the integrity of our elections.
