Congressman Morgan McGarvey’s Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 7, 2023) – Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address:

“Tonight, President Biden highlighted his accomplishments delivering for the American people,” said Rep. Morgan McGarvey. “When President Biden took office two years ago, our economy was in disarray and COVID-19 was running rampant in our communities. Congressional Democrats have worked alongside President Biden to pass landmark legislation to help communities bounce back from the pandemic, bring our infrastructure into the 21st century, and improve the lives of everyday Americans.

“We’ve seen historic economic success under President Biden; more than 12 million jobs have been created and our unemployment rate is at its lowest in nearly six decades. Both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act are creating good-paying union jobs across the country while delivering much-needed investments to update our roads, highways and bridges, tackle the climate crisis, and lower costs for working families. These critical pieces of legislation mean better wages, safer communities, and more money in people’s pockets.

“While our country has made great strides these last two years, there’s still more work to be done. My Democratic colleagues and I are united in fighting extremist attacks on women’s rights and healthcare, safeguarding our democracy, protecting our communities against senseless gun violence, and ensuring we don’t cut essential benefits like Social Security and Medicare. I’m focused on working with Congressional leaders and President Biden to deliver for Kentuckians and the American people.”
