Daily Brief: A Message from President Liz Shuler

  • Earlier this week, we got a glimpse into what a government run by the billionaires, for the billionaires, at the expense of everyday Americans could look like. After Elon Musk and Donald Trump posted criticism of an end-of-year Continuing Resolution (CR) deal that would keep the government funded, the CR was derailed, threatening the paychecks of hundreds of thousands of hardworking families during the holidays.
  • Following this, the Republican majority began withdrawing their support for a bipartisan bill that would ensure critical funding for the government’s child cancer research, 9/11 worker health care funding and other priorities. If no deal is made before midnight tonight, Dec. 20, the government will shut down.
  • In no healthy democracy would a union-busting billionaire be able to singlehandedly topple legislation to keep essential agencies running. This interference has the potential to strip critical, taxpaying public servants from their paychecks just days from Christmas.
  • This is beyond shameful. Lawmakers are supposed to serve and protect us, the people, not power-hungry CEOs.
