Subject: PROTECT AMERICA’S WORKFORCE ACT
MEMORANDUM
TO: Principal and Secondary Officers of State Federations
and Area and Central Labor Councils
FROM: AFL-CIO Office of the President
On Monday evening, Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) along with seven other Republican Congressional Representatives sent a letter to President Trump asking him to reconsider the executive order entitled Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs as well as DHS Secretary Noem’s action on February 27, to end collective bargaining for TSA workers. Please see their full letter here.
Yesterday, Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced a bipartisan bill in Congress that would nullify Trump’s executive order stripping the right to collectively bargain from hundreds of thousands of federal employees.
Additionally, the members of the Congressional Labor Caucus also drafted a letter opposing President Trump’s executive order and they would like to have more Democratic representatives to sign on by contacting labor caucus staff Tommy Wolfe at tommy.wolfe@mail.house.gov by Thursday, April 3, 12 p.m. ET.
The AFL-CIO is in full support of the Protect America’s Workforce Act and we launched a “call your representative” campaign calling for the passage of this bill.
It’s time for Congress to hear from supporters of working people on a bill that will help working people across the country. Remember: More than 70% of Americans and nearly 9 in 10 young people support unions. No one voted to attack the freedom to organize with our co-workers for a better life.
That’s why every member of Congress—Democrat or Republican—should be willing to take a stand in support of our fundamental rights by backing this critical legislation.
