UNITED RURAL DEMOCRATS

Today marks Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It's a solemn day to remember the great civil rights leader, and continue his tireless work on behalf of marginalized communities across the country.

In my hometown, today is also a day of service. Like many communities, we honor this day by contributing our own acts of service to support our neighbors, friends, family, and those who need a helping hand. We come together in honor of Dr. King’s critical work to uplift our most vulnerable.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an incredible figurehead for the civil rights movement, and he changed the course of history with his clear, inclusive, and just vision for the future of our country.

In rural America especially, his message of leaving no stone unturned and rooting out all injustice still rings true today. All across rural communities, people of color are being turned away from voting booths, LGBTQ+ individuals are losing their rights to love whomever they choose, women are seeing their reproductive rights stripped away, and millions of Americans are struggling with a cost of living crisis and resource deserts.
